Erwin Bamps has for several years been known throughout the yachting sector in the Middle East as the driving force behind the staggering growth exhibited by Gulf Craft in recent years. Today, the company is one of the top ten superyacht builders in the world.

When we met with Erwin at the Gulf Craft shipyard in Umm Al Quwain and asked how he’s led this growth, he modestly insisted that the redevelopment of Gulf Craft as a global super yacht brand was a team effort, with more than 1,700 employees contributing. However, Erwin’s leadership at Gulf Craft, as Chief Operating Officer for the past several years, was highlighted recently by his appointment as CEO by the shipyard’s board of directors.

“Erwin Bamps has spearheaded a period of intense growth for Gulf Craft and his energy, analytical approach and personal passion for the company has been largely responsible for his many accomplishments within the operation,” said Mohammed Alshaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft when Erwin’s appointment was announced at the end of June.

“The move to the position of Chief Executive Officer recognises his contribution in making Gulf Craft the internationally recognised company it is today and builds on the company’s ambitions to steer an even more successful path in the years to come.” When the new CEO invited Yachts magazine to Umm Al Quwain for a personal tour of the shipyard we therefore jumped at the chance to find out Erwin’s plans for the future of this burgeoning global brand.
